Management of Pharmacy
The hospital has 7 staffs, 2 Technicians, 2 stores Assistants and 3 nursing Assistants. The Hospital has a well-equipped pharmacy combined with the medical stores which they are using at the moment for management of its medicine; medical supplies and equipment.
The ordering of drugs for usage in the in the various wards is done from the Pharmacy by the in charges of the respective wards. The hospital main pharmacy is under the guidance of the hospital pharmacist who is mandated for controlling the procurement, storage and distribution of drugs in the hospital and any satellite units and promoting their safe and appropriate use using the standard operating procedures.
- FEFO (First-Expiry-First-Out) is practiced in stock rotation for those drugs and supplies with expiry dates and FIFO (First-In-First-Out) for those supplies without expiry dates.
- Temperature control using thermometers is used to maintain drugs at recommended storage temperatures while air conditioners are used to control high temperatures.
- General cleanliness of the medicine tins, packets and shelves is always done to maintain quality of the medicines.
- Drugs are arranged on shelves according to therapeutic/pharmacological classes using generic names.
- Topical preparations are arranged separately from internal preparations to avoid contamination of the internal preparation.
- Security of the store is ensured by restricting entry to store rooms and double lock doors.
- Expired drugs are always sorted, isolated and stored in a separate store waiting transportation to the district medical stores for handling.
Pharmacy/Medical stores open at 8am-1pm with half an hour break and closes at 5pm with one hour lunch break. This is from Monday to Friday; Saturdays, from 8:00am to 1:00pm with half an hour break
